Following a successful and productive interim report-out meeting in Evansville, I want to share an update on our week, where we are in our Analysis Phase, and what’s ahead in the integration planning process. I also want to preview an all-employee survey* we’re planning soon as part of our efforts to combine our companies’ cultures.

Interim report-out creates opportunities for further connections and collaboration
Over the past month, teams have been busy analyzing department structures, work functions and existing processes and resources, as well as identifying similarities and differences and each other’s working models. The interim report-out gave the integration planning teams an opportunity to share their findings broadly, while identifying interdependencies and opportunities for collaboration among the teams.

For example, the Transmission and Distribution team discussed interdependencies with HR on labor relations, Finance & Accounting for prioritization and allocation of capital and O&M, and Technology for consolidation of technology. The Operations Support team discussed interdependencies with Supply Chain for relationships with contractors, HR for training, and Gas and Electric Operations for functional support, safety and training. These represented just some of the interdependencies the teams will explore as they move forward with their Analysis Phase work.

The Analysis Phase interim report-out is a stepping stone to the final report-out, which will be held in mid-September, and to the Design Phase of our integration planning efforts. Based on our progress, we’ve also decided to move the timing of the Design Phase launch up to mid-September. The focus of the Design Phase will be on developing recommendations for the ideal organizational models for our combined company, including culture aspects, process changes and day 1 needs, and is expected to last approximately three months.

Employee input critical for combining cultures
One of the major focus areas of integration planning will be creating an integrated culture that combines the best-of-both characteristics from CenterPoint (CNP) and Vectren. To this end, it’s important that our employees have a voice in our process.

In connection with PwC Strategy&, our integration planning consultant, we have developed a brief “culture thumbprint” survey which will be distributed to all CNP and Vectren employees to help assess the current state of our cultures and identify aspirational elements for us to consider in the combined company’s culture. The confidential survey will be administered internally with support from PwC Strategy& and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your confidential responses will be critical in helping us better understand our companies’ cultures and inform the change management roadmap for combining them. Please keep an eye out for a survey from PwC Strategy& soon.

* Please note: Miller Pipeline, Minnesota Limited and Energy Systems Group employees will not be asked to participate in the survey at this time. A process to engage these employees will occur after the merger close date.
