CHICAGO, IL, August 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- True Lacrosse is excited to announce that Liz Zia will be joining the Illinois South division as Girls Director. Zia moves to the South program after coaching for the True Lacrosse Chicago Girls program for the past four seasons.
"Coach Liz Zia is no stranger to our True Lacrosse Family," said Illinois Girls General Manager Christina Fried. "She has been a loyal coach."
Zia carries with her an impressive record as an athlete and a coach. She was a key player on St. Ambrose College's inaugural team, where she started every game. The team went on to make history within the NAIA by making it to the conference semifinals in their first season.
Individually, Zia was awarded the KCAC defensive player of the week award and an All-Conference award. She was ranked 11th in the NAIA for total saves and 12th for saves per game.
Zia then transferred to Illinois Institute of Technology, where she played three seasons, and broke the school records for saves, save percentage, and most goalie wins. She still holds these titles today. Although two of her seasons were cut short due to COVID-19, she was awarded the NACC scholar athlete award every year she played.
Zia also has an extensive coaching background, starting during her sophomore year of high school with IGLA, where she continued to coach until her junior year of college. She then coached two camps for GameBreaker Lacrosse, before accepting a head coaching position at St. Laurence High School in Burbank Illinois. There, she started the lacrosse program, and brought the first year varsity team to win their division championship. Most recently, Zia has coached with True Lacrosse Chicago for the past four seasons. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity to coach girls from her area.
"I am beyond excited to begin coaching girls from my area," she said. "I can't wait to use my coaching and playing experience to help bring an elite style of lacrosse to the south and help this sport grow.
