DALLAS, TX / ACCESSWIRE / July 18, 2022 / Stephen Weed, the founder and CEO of Prime Financial Recruiting, was supposed to be an engineer. That was where his career began, with a position at Bell Labs and Lucent Technologies. So, how does an engineer become one of the foremost authorities in the recruiting field, a leader who has led small startup companies to million-dollar revenues - twice - before launching his own recruiting firm?
As Stephen explains, it would never have been possible if he had not been willing to pursue his passions, work tirelessly to achieve his vision, and bet big on himself.
After a successful career in engineering, Stephen was approached by an HR manager in the late-90s who suggested that he look into recruiting. With many of his industry's key jobs being moved overseas, Stephen saw the opportunity to make a change and create a new career for himself. It was a significant decision for Stephen, who had no previous experience in the field.
"When the idea of recruiting came up, I had no experience in recruiting, no real experience in sales, but I fell in love with it because it was going to change the way we work in this country," Stephen says. "People were starting to go where there was opportunity in a company, not just where there was a place to retire."
His first opportunity came at a small startup - a big transition from a global organization to a company of three people in a small, rented office. Over the first six months they worked up to a team of eight, however, shortly after, everyone but Stephen and the owner had left.
"I wanted to do this career, while everybody else would see excuses. So, the owner and I built the company from scratch," Stephen says. "Within the first couple years, we were doing about 4 million in revenue. It was the first time in my life that I was making 100k a year. And this was my first experience in recruiting."
Disagreements with the owner eventually led Stephen to leave the company, eventually joining another recruiting startup - and with similar results.
"I took a job with the company, and he had hired about six other recruiters. Within the first six months, everyone was gone and the owner asked, ‘How about you and I build this?'"
Again, Stephen used his exceptional skills and sheer tenacity to build a startup from a two-man company into a multi-million-dollar corporation. In doing so, he broke new ground in the financial recruiting niche, essentially carving out a brand-new space within the industry. After successfully scaling the company, Stephen ventured out on his own, starting Prime Financial Recruiting in 2013.
Prime Financial Recruiting specializes in secured lending industries such as factoring, asset-based lending, and over the last few years has emerged into the fintech industry. They work with some of the largest corporations in the country, helping them fill important executive positions and open new divisions within the firm. They also work directly with employees, matching their skills to the leading positions in the field.
For someone who never intended to go into recruiting, Stephen has become one of the most sought-after names in the industry. Firms often contact him directly for help placing key executives in vital positions within the company. Because of his unprecedented success in financial recruiting, Stephen is confident that Prime Financial Recruiting will continue to reach new heights in 2022.
"I have been in recruiting now for 20 years, and people say to me, LinkedIn is going to put you out of business, HR departments are going to put you out of business, but I do what nobody else does," Stephen says. "I get the people that LinkedIn can't get, the people the HR departments can't get, I go get the star players and help companies retain the top talent in the industry."
It is that human factor that keeps Stephen motivated to continue growing Prime Financial Recruiting.
"It is not an easy business, but the world runs with people," Stephen says. "No matter how much technology you build, no matter how good your systems are, there is always somebody behind it."
Prime Financial Recruiting is the leading executive search firm specialized in secured lending industries such as factoring, asset-based lending, and fintech. Led by CEO, Stephen Weed, their team has been responsible for successfully filling positions from administrative to executive.
