Marquis Who’s Who Honors Gurmukh Singh, MD, PhD, MBA, FCAP, CPE, FAAPL, for Expertise in Health Care and Medical Research

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / November 7, 2024 / Marquis Who's Who has honored Gurmukh Singh, MD, PhD, MBA, FCAP, CPE, FAAPL, for his expertise in the medical field. Dr. Singh has dedicated over five decades to health care, medical research and higher education.

Growing up, Dr. Singh knew of only a few careers: teacher, lawyer, engineer and doctor. Being a doctor seemed the most intriguing of these professions for him. Attributing the successful journey to his God-given talents, Dr. Singh also notes that his father worked as a high school teacher, instilling in him the importance of education. His father's teachings and many encounters with helpful individuals throughout his career have led him toward health care excellence.

Dr. Singh started his career with coursework completion in Patiala, Punjab, India, at Government Mohindra College and Punjabi University in 1967. By 1972, he had received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, India. While studying at AFMC, Dr. Singh proudly received the Kalinga Trophy for "Best Graduating Student" in 1971. Making his way through his home country, he spent a little time in Chandigarh, carrying out an internship and house officership at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in 1973.

After completing his early academic endeavors in medicine, Dr. Singh traveled to the United States in 1974 to fulfill his residency in pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.

Desiring continued health care education and excellence, Dr. Singh earned a PhD in experimental pathology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1977 and completed his residency there in 1978. By 1998, Dr. Singh expanded his interests, deciding to pursue and acquire a Master of Business Administration at Pitt's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business.

From 1975 through 2014, Dr. Singh worked to receive many medical licenses throughout the U.S. With his certifications and licenses, he boasts expertise in experimental research, general and clinical pathology and immunopathology.

As an expert experimental researcher with immunopathological specialties, Dr. Singh is a faculty member at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. Maintaining affiliations with the institution's Medical College of Georgia, he remains active as the director of clinical pathology, the vice chair of clinical affairs and pathology since 2016 and the Walter L. Shepeard Chair of Clinical Pathology since 2014. Throughout his professional tenure, Dr. Singh has guided and mentored residents and undergraduate students in his specialty.

Alongside his work in Augusta, Dr. Singh has been affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kansas and the University of Pittsburgh. Furthermore, Dr. Singh has held several medical positions at Heritage Lab Services, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, all while being the chief medical officer for the Veterans Integrated Network 4. As the chief, he supervised 10 hospitals throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Spotlighting his most notable achievements, Dr. Singh has made a positive difference in the lives of several students and residents. He specifically notes six undergraduate students who worked in his research laboratory before matriculating to medical school.

Additionally, Dr. Singh discovered two genes and identified a subtype of multiple myeloma while supplementally defining its diagnostic criteria. He was featured in Millennium Magazine and received more than ten grants from federal agencies to continue his research.

During his extensive career, Dr. Singh has made substantial and impactful contributions to health care. In the next decade, he plans to continue his clinical research on multiple myeloma, providing information that can lead to treatment improvements.

Dr. Singh also contemplates writing a book about his home of Punjab, India. As he considers himself a resilient representation of the Sikhs, he wants aspiring medical professionals to remember his most meaningful advice: "Be nice to yourself and the people around you."
