1Weather and Tomorrow.io Deliver Insights on Extreme Weather Impact Across the United States
1Weather, a leading consumer weather app with more than 100 million active users, and Tomorrow.io, the world’s leading Resilience Platform™, released an in-depth report on how climate volatility has impacted both Americans’ lives and business operations. The report revealed that more than 80% of those surveyed said they were significantly impacted by the devastating storms, hurricanes and relentless heat waves that hit the United States during Summer 2024. Nearly 85% of respondents also shared their concerns around the costs of these weather-related experiences such as higher-than-average electricity bills, power outages, grocery and travel disruptions. More than 50% of consumers also say the adverse weather shifted their daily routines.
The report, which leveraged Tomorrow.io’s advanced predictive insights and 1Weather’s extensive consumer insights, also found that Americans shifted where they gathered their weather information, increasingly turning to weather apps to track forecasts, monitor conditions, and track storms–rather than solely relying on local news and national weather programs. This surge in app usage signals a broader shift towards relying on technology to adapt to climate challenges. Weather app opens and radar views spiking by up to 300% during hurricane landfall periods. More than 66% of users in high-risk areas increased their weather checking habits to more than four times a day, especially in the Southwest and Southeast.
The report's enterprise insights, drawn from Tomorrow.io's analysis of over 500,000 resilience alerts, provides deeper insight into business impacts across seasons. Key findings showed the construction industry was most impacted during Summer 2024, accounting for 20.93% of weather-related alerts due to their direct exposure to elements and critical safety requirements. The analysis is enhanced by Tomorrow.io's cutting-edge Pathfinder satellites, which captured unprecedented scans of major storms including Hurricanes Beryl and Debby, providing real-time views on storm structure, intensity, and surrounding weather patterns.
Looking ahead to Fall/Winter 2024-2025, historical data analysis from the previous year indicates increased challenges for transportation and logistics, which accounted for 14.89% of cold-weather alerts during the 2023-2024 winter season, likely due to reduced visibility, icy conditions, and their widespread impact on supply chains and delivery schedules.
"Our goal is to empower individuals and businesses with the information they need to make informed decisions," said Srikanth Subramanian, Vice President and General Manager of 1Weather. "By combining our user-friendly platform with Tomorrow.io’s cutting-edge data, we are committed to enhancing climate resilience across the nation."
1Weather and Tomorrow.io aims to provide users with advanced forecasts and insights to navigate upcoming weather challenges. This collaboration not only emphasizes the growing demand for hyperlocal, real-time weather intelligence but also illustrates the innovative capabilities Tomorrow.io and 1Weather bring to climate resilience.
