Mojaloop Foundation Launches New Global Partner Program

AfricaNenda, FNA, GLEIF, and MOSIP Bolster Growing Ecosystem Dedicated to Advancing Financial Inclusion for All

The Mojaloop Foundation is proud to introduce its new global partner program, an initiative dedicated to advancing financial inclusion worldwide. This program enables the Mojaloop Foundation and partner organizations to shape the future of inclusive instant payment systems (IIPS). The program launches in partnership with esteemed organizations, including AfricaNenda, FNA, Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), and Modular Open-Source Identity Platform (MOSIP).

"The introduction of our partner program follows substantial Mojaloop momentum in emerging countries, including Rwanda, the Philippines, Togo and across the COMESA region," said Mojaloop Foundation Executive Director Paula Hunter. "We extend a warm welcome to our partners as they join our growing network of organizations dedicated to closing the financial inclusion gap."

Partners encompass entities with a focus on financial inclusion; global technology and payment organizations targeting emerging markets; system integrators; regulatory experts; open source and standards groups; as well as research institutions seeking to influence industry discourse on payments and financial inclusion. The partner program will introduce various initiatives, including:

  • Collaborative Development: Joint efforts to create products, tools, and technologies that enhance interoperability while providing underserved communities with low-cost, secure financial services today.
  • Engagement Initiatives: Partnerships to promote awareness and drive demand for IIPS, Digital Public Infrastructure, and national sovereignty through open-source tools.
  • Thought Leadership: Collaborative exploration of emerging technologies, policies, regulations and standards, such as stablecoins, AI, ISO20022 evolution, and cross-border payments to shape the future of inclusive instant payments.

In combining the Mojaloop Foundation’s expertise with key partners in the financial inclusion and payment industries, the program aims to significantly boost market development efforts and reach the unbanked and underserved people more rapidly.

AfricaNenda Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mojaloop Foundation. Under this agreement, both parties will collaborate with regional economic communities, monetary unions, central banks, and national hub operators to promote and implement sovereign, nationally owned and operated, inclusive instant payment systems. The partnership also aims to encourage open-source collaboration and the adoption of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) standards, providing models for other countries to learn from.

FNA has signed an MOU with the Mojaloop Foundation to ensure that inclusive instant payment systems do not become a highway for fraud. This partnership will help hub operators using Mojaloop to set up National Fraud Portals to assist financial institutions, law enforcement, and other stakeholders in their fight against fraud and scams.

GLEIF has signed an MOU with the Mojaloop Foundation to enable effective domestic and cross-border routing of merchant and business payments towards the right legal entity through the use of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI). The LEI is a globally recognized ISO standard used to uniquely identify legal entities participating in financial transactions. The LEI is comparable to a digital international company ID card; it contains a good-quality business card and ownership structure information about a legal entity, enabling organizations to know precisely with whom they are doing business. Every LEI links to a verified company identity record held in the Global LEI Index, a data pool that anyone, anywhere can access free of charge.

MOSIP has partnered with the Mojaloop Foundation to ensure that digital identity and digital payments — key pillars of DPI implementation alongside data—are more intertwined and operate with greater synergy, enabling countries deploying MOSIP and Mojaloop to maximize the value of the two platforms together.

“Partnering with the Mojaloop Foundation underscores AfricaNenda Foundation’s dedication as a technology-neutral provider to revolutionize financial inclusivity. Together, we are leveraging technology to eliminate systemic barriers and enable broader access to digital financial services. By uniting our efforts, we are not just deploying technology, we are creating a foundation for economic empowerment and resilience, unlocking new pathways to prosperity for generations to come," said Dr. Robert Ochola, CEO, AfricaNenda Foundation.

"As instant payment systems expand, it is crucial to ensure they remain secure and resilient. Our partnership with the Mojaloop Foundation will equip the financial system with advanced AI tools to detect and prevent fraud and recover stolen funds for victims, safeguarding financial ecosystems and the communities they serve,” said Dr. Kimmo Soramaki, Founder & CEO, FNA.

"We're thrilled to collaborate with the Mojaloop Foundation to accelerate digital financial inclusion across the African continent. A key enabler of financial inclusion is widespread small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) adoption of a trusted, globally recognized system for business identity. By holding a LEI, any SME can demonstrate the transparency required to build trusted relationships with third parties — both locally and across borders. Expanding financial inclusion for micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) will foster a more resilient, diverse, and competitive global trade environment — built on transparency and trust. The result of greater financial inclusion among MSMEs will be a stronger, more diverse, transparent, and competitive environment for global trade," said Clare Rowley, Head of Business Operations, GLEIF.

“We are deeply invested in community-driven technology development and deployment at MOSIP, and it is through partnerships like this one with the Mojaloop Foundation that we stay committed to open-source innovation. Together with partners in the DPI space, we remain driven towards driving financial inclusion and empowering communities across the world. We are pleased to join forces with the Mojaloop Foundation and look forward to continuing to work towards our collective roles as we move forward," said Prof. S. Rajagopalan, Hon. Visiting Faculty, President – MOSIP & OpenG2P, Chair – Centre for DPI.
