The events and opportunities for connecting with neighbors and friends in the town of Mt. Pleasant, MS are part of the United Methodist Church’s commitment to supporting community camaraderie.

Laid out in 1837 as a village with a public square serving as the central focus of the town, Mt. Pleasant, MS features area lots north of the square that were originally designated for a school, graveyard, and a church. Mt. Pleasant United Methodist church was established on that original site, and has played an active role in helping to develop, support, and grow the Northwest Mississippi community for nearly 190 years through various types of events and activities. “We work to bring neighbors together, strengthening old friendships and helping to start new ones,” say church members.

Events include the Mt. Pleasant, MS Farmers Market, which runs each year from June - September. The market was started by church members in June 2022 as a way to better utilize the public square. Each summer, funds raised through the vendor fees are donated to the Mt. Pleasant MS Volunteer Fire department, and these donations have assisted the fire department in purchasing much-needed equipment for which there were no other funds.

Additional activities include the annual Christmas Market, launched in 2022 by members of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. The 2024 Christmas Market successfully kicked off the Holly Springs-Mt. Pleasant MS Holiday season on October 26 by hosting a variety of local vendors and craftspeople.

Neighbors interested in meeting church members are invited to attend the upcoming Christmas Tree Lighting event, which will take place on December 8, 2024. Although not sponsored by the church, the event welcomes area vendors and is designed to draw the community together.

One Mt. Pleasant community member, Ken Pierce, commented on the benefits of interacting with the church and attending events. “The best way to get to know our small-town church with a very big heart is to START asking yourself five questions: Are you Searching to connect with others around you? Are you Tired of feeling alone? Are you not using all of your love and talents? Ready to share those love and talents? Then Together, we can help you connect with others as we grow our church.”
