The NLFA Life Skills Program was created to address a growing need among young athletes whose college opportunities may be limited or uncertain, while still providing structure, mentorship, and tangible next steps toward employment or skilled training. While the NLFA serves as a spring developmental football league, its mission extends far beyond competition.
"Our goal is simple," said NLFA leadership. "Every athlete who enters the NLFA should leave with more than film and game experience—they should leave with options, direction, and a realistic pathway toward a career."
Program Focus Areas
The NLFA Life Skills Program emphasizes:
- Workforce readiness and professionalism
- Career exploration and job placement assistance
- Trade and technical education pathways
- Mentorship, accountability, and life planning
Through strategic partnerships with local employers and educational institutions, the NLFA is building a pipeline that connects athletes directly to opportunity.
Key Life Skills Partners
SRT Sales / Landers Dodge
This partnership provides exposure to entry-level employment opportunities and career exploration within the automotive and sales industries. Athletes gain access to workplace environments that value initiative, reliability, and growth, offering a practical bridge from athletics to employment.
Bossier Parish Community College – EMPWR LA
Through EMPWR LA workforce training programs, athletes are introduced to job-aligned training options that lead to employable skills and industry-recognized credentials. The partnership offers structured pathways for athletes seeking education that connects directly to the job market.
North Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC)
NLTCC provides hands-on trade education in high-demand fields, giving athletes access to training that can lead to certifications and long-term careers. This partnership emphasizes trades as a strong first-choice career option, not a fallback.
A Model Built on Outcomes
The NLFA Life Skills Program is designed to produce measurable results. The league's objective is that each participating athlete exits the program with at least one of the following:
- A job or job placement pathway
- Enrollment in a trade or workforce training program
- A defined career plan and mentor connection
- Improved life and professional skills
By integrating football development with workforce partnerships, the NLFA is creating a model that prepares athletes for adulthood, independence, and leadership.
