MetLife (MET) Reports Earnings Tomorrow: What To Expect

Global insurance giant MetLife (NYSE: MET) will be announcing earnings results this Wednesday after market close. Here’s what to look for.

MetLife missed analysts’ revenue expectations by 5.6% last quarter, reporting revenues of $17.9 billion, up 1.6% year on year. It was a softer quarter for the company, with a significant miss of analysts’ revenue estimates and a significant miss of analysts’ book value per share estimates.

This quarter, analysts are expecting MetLife’s revenue to grow 35.1% year on year to $26.66 billion, improving from the 5.4% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $2.34 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. MetLife has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates five times over the last two years.

Looking at MetLife’s peers in the insurance segment, some have already reported their Q4 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. Hartford delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 6.7%, beating analysts’ expectations by 49.9%, and AXIS Capital reported revenues up 8.9%, topping estimates by 1.8%. Hartford traded up 2% following the results while AXIS Capital’s stock price was unchanged.

Questions about potential tariffs and corporate tax changes have caused much volatility in 2025. While some of the insurance stocks have shown solid performance in this choppy environment, the group has generally underperformed, with share prices down 2.6% on average over the last month. MetLife is down 2.3% during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $92 (compared to the current share price of $80.35).
