The featured book:

Cornered! is the story of a little green turtle named Sheldon the Square-Shelled Turtle™, a curious turtle who likes music, sports, and eating the occasional fly. In fact, he's pretty normal except for one little thing; his shell is square and not round. And all Sheldon wants more than anything is to fit in and look like every other turtle. But because he looks different, all the kids tease him and call him names. Sheldon’s mom tries to tell him his four-cornered shell is a gift but he’s not buying it. One day he has to do one of the bravest things he’s ever done and he realizes that who he is on the inside is what really matters. Sheldon's brave deed saves the day and he learns quickly that being a little bit different can be a very good thing! Cornered!  is written and co-created by Dr. Mike Perko, PhD., and illustrator Nick Nebelsky.

Perko and Nebelsky originally met at age 6 and attended school together until the 12th grade. Different fields of study took them in two opposite directions and they didn’t meet up again until their 30th high school reunion. It was there when they discovered that they actually had a lot in common. Nick liked to read to children in RIF programs while volunteering in and around Phoenix, AZ and Mike, a dad, enjoyed reading stories to his two young children. It’s for them that he started writing down stories and actually his 5-year-old daughter is the voice of Sheldon in the app versions of the books. Perko believes these books will teach children how to stand up for themselves and be more confident while raising their self-esteem.

of adjectives such as 'cute, adorable, sweet, scrumptious,
and oh my squid, I just want to hug it'."

and

“As so many of our young children struggle with feeling “different” and many become victims of bullying by their peers, this fun little book has a reassuring message that each person is OK!”

and

“This wonderful book by Perko and Nebelsky is helpful to any child who feels square in a round world!  The questions at the end are a nice starting point for conversations–for teachers, friends, and parents.  Parents will appreciate the fact that they can download this as an app to most smart phones and tablets; great reading on trips!”
