Radisson Hotel Atlanta Northwest Gives Away Free Rooms During Snow Storm
PRLog - Feb. 3, 2014 - MARIETTA, Ga. -- A rare winter storm caught the Deep South by surprise, keeping many of its roads paralyzed by snow and ice.  As thousands of people continued to get stranded, the Radisson Hotel Atlanta Northwest worked in tandem with the city’s emergency response team to get people to the hotel where they could stay for free.

“Seeing people, including little children, trapped on the roads for hours, we had to do something,” according to Peter Bheda, President of the Frontera Hotel Group, the hotel’s management company.  Peter contacted the local authorities and let them know that stranded commuters were welcome to stay.  The emergency service and Marietta police brought five families to the hotel during the first night because he had the 911 dispatcher broadcast the offer.  Several individuals and families also made their way to the hotel to find much needed refuge and spend the night in a safe, warm environment.  The hotel took in over 100 guests over the two nights, each was given a complimentary stay, as well as food and drink.

“We ran out of food and coffee, but two of our housekeeping associates, despite the order by the police not to leave their homes, walked two miles to come to work to assist us with whatever was needed,” Peter shared.  Many of the hotel’s staff members worked 24 hours straight as guests continued to come in past midnight and into the morning.  “One of our guests was so touched by this gesture, he drove to a local Costco store and brought food and wanted to inform all of our guests that there is a reception in the lobby to ‘celebrate’ the Southern hospitality by the folks at Radisson.”

The hotel recently went through a change in ownership and management. It is about to undergo a major renovation.  The hotel will close for three months in February to complete its transformation but Peter hopes that this experience has set the most important foundation for its team, the spirit of true hospitality.
