OutdoorGearLab Releases the Latest Pocket Knife Review

By: PRLog
Products earn Editors' Choice, Top Pick and Best Buy awards after extensive testing.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Nov. 2, 2016 - PRLog -- OutdoorGearLab, a website dedicated to high quality gear testing, has just released a detailed review of the top pocket knives of 2016.  Eight reputable models were selected to be utilized, analyzed and scored across a variety of metrics to determine the cream of the crop. Expert testers carried the contenders day in and day out, using them for simple tasks such as opening packages and slicing cheese, as well as  more demanding objectives such as cutting rope or webbing. The knives were even put to the unique task of whittling and boring holes with the tips of the blades. After months of rigorous testing, the products were scored, reviewed and recorded in a side-by-side comparison chart. Categories over which the items were scored include, blade integrity, construction quality, ergonomics and other features.

The winners are as follows:

Editors' Choice - Benchmade Mini-Barrage 585

The Mini-Barrage 585 won the prestigious Editors' Choice award for its blend of impeccable design and  precision craftsmanship. This model includes an assisted opening system which can be conveniently deployed from either hand, as well as a lock position for when it's floating around in a loose pocket or purse. What's more, says Jediah Porter, is that, "For the cost of shipping the knife back to them, Benchmade will return the edge to factory specs, throughout the length of your ownership."

Top Pick for Keychain-Readiness and Compactness - Victorinox Classic SD Swiss Army

The Classic SD Swiss Army Knife earned the Top Pick award for its specific application of keychain-readiness. It packs a plentiful array of useful features into its compact stature. Even the scissors, while small and seemingly toy-like, are strong enough to cut through robust climbing webbing. Porter concludes, "The Classic is indeed a classic. Even compared to much larger and much more expensive knives, it fares very well. It is nearly the smallest in our test, but no knife we tested has more features."

Top Pick for Burly Construction in a Lightweight Package - SOG Trident Elite

The Trident Elite wins the Top Pick honor for its brawny construction in a lightweight frame. This model features AUS-8 steel which is configured into a sturdy blade that engages and stows away both efficiently and securely. After months of testing, Porter believes that, "If you spend a great deal of time in vehicles and urban environments under duress, a tactical knife like this in your pocket is an excellent confidence boost."

Best Buy Award - Kershaw Leek

The Leek wins the Best Buy award due to its low cost, pedigreed blade and compact frame. This model features a tab on the rear of the blade that allows for easy deployment of the blade and has the ability to lock while not in use. With its quality steel blade and careful attention to detail, Porter claims, "It strikes a balance of form and function usually reserved for equipment far, far more expensive."
