Celebratory Award Event To Take Place Thursday, May 17, 2018
LOS ANGELES - May 15, 2018 - PRLog -- Dedicated to supporting global initiatives to protect the plant universe and biodiversity, the Klorane Botanical Foundation, Klorane's corporate foundation, and national non-profit KidsGardening, leader in the school gardening movement, are proud to announce Rosemead High School as a winner of the inaugural Budding Botanist Grant. The Grant helps our youngest citizens value their environment, explore the plant world, and inspires them to take care of the life they discover in their local ecosystems.

One of six winning schools across the country, Rosemead High School has been awarded a Budding Botanist Grant package valued at $3000 in cash and supplies to provide resources for creating important learning gardens with their students. The school was selected for its commitment to teaching environmental sustainability and biodiversity and will utilize the Budding Botanist Grant to support their "Wisdom of Weeds" garden. Teacher Joseph Vasquez says, "Our garden helps our students understand 'how education connects to my life' and integrates classroom learning, especially in STEM subjects."

"Our food and drought-tolerant gardens have been incredibly successful and our new 'Wisdom of Weeds' project, for example, is helping students to consider an ecologically informed approach to gardening. We will use weed species to attract local pollinators and consider the plants as part of a garden to be managed."

"Students in our community are at risk for obesity, diabetes, and related diseases, and their families' putting food on the table is a higher priority than environmental sustainability. These garden projects rally the students and community to care about the environment and take action," continued Vasquez.

On Thursday, May 17th, the Klorane Botanical Foundation and KidsGardening will help host an award ceremony and garden project at the school in celebration of receiving the Budding Botanist Grant, and to raise awareness around the impact of teaching children to protect nature through growing, caring for and living with plants.
