Silver Spring, Md., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 /3BL Media/ -- The Business Intelligence Group today named Novelis and Discovery Education’s Life of a Can initiative Sustainability Service of the Year in the 2018 Sustainability Awards program. The Sustainability Awards honor people, teams and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission.
“The students, educators and partners that are championing recycling and reducing waste are the real winners and Novelis is honored to further encourage these environmental stewards through the Life of a Can education initiative,” said Ashley Gravlee, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Novelis. “Novelis is committed to shaping a sustainable world together and empowering future leaders to appreciate, respect, and restore the environments in which they live, work and play.”
Life of a Can educates the future generation on key recycling facts such as the $1.5 billion total value of aluminum sent to landfills every year and the end-to-end recycling timeline for a can, while encouraging the development of students’ critical-thinking skills through a holistic look at the recycling process and real-world implications of our actions. Created by Discovery Education’s curriculum experts, this multi-year engagement program offers digital resources designed to stimulate insightful conversations and illustrate STEM at work throughout the aluminum recycling process.
“We are proud to partner with Novelis, a true industry leader committed to engaging students, in the importance of our environment, and the critical role they play to protect and preserve our planet,” said Lori McFarling, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Discovery Education. “Novelis’ Life of a Can spotlights core STEM applications utilized in the recycling process and equips educators with dynamic digital resources that inspire students to explore the earth’s natural resources.”
“We are proud to reward and recognize Novelis and Discovery Education for their sustainability efforts,” said Maria Jimenez, chief nominations officer, Business Intelligence Group. “It was clear to our judges that their vision and strategy will continue to deliver results toward a cleaner, more sustainable world. Congratulations!”
