Federman & Sherwood Investigates Twitter, Inc. Bitcoin Scam

Federman & Sherwood, a boutique litigation law firm that has been appointed counsel in several data breach cases, is investigating the widespread compromise of major companies’ and individuals’ accounts on Twitter, Inc. (NYSE: TWTR). In a tweet on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, Twitter’s support account released the following statement:

“We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it.”

In what appears to be the most devastating and far-reaching attack the platform has ever seen, Twitter’s systems were compromised in service of promoting a bitcoin scam that earned its creator very large sums of Twitter users’ money. Accounts of major companies and individuals such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates, among other high-profile names, were compromised and began promoting the scam. While the impact of this attack is yet to be fully determined, hundreds of Twitter users may have had their personal and bank account information compromised and, as a result, face the threatened possibility of identity theft and/or other forms of fraud.
