Corona, CA Release January 25th, 2021.

With modern aviation insurance providing coverage and protection for all that can go wrong in the sky, many in the industry neglect the coverage provided on the ground. BWI owner Matt White breaks down the basics of hangar insurance.

For Immediate Release

Aviation accidents hold the potential to become extremely expensive and catastrophic for aircraft owners and pilots alike. The aircraft themselves are not cheap and one can hardly put a price on the cargo of human life that is often ferried from point A to point B in the skies above. However, catastrophic accidents in the sky are actually rare events. Much more liability exists on the ground and such incidents are more frequent.

BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White wrote in a recent piece to his audience that ensuring one is covered on the ground and in the hangar is an essential component of any aviation operation. “First and foremost, aircraft and private hangar owners will want to protect their investments on the ground,” said White. However, a large portion of hangars in the United States host fixed-base operators who are routinely responsible for third-party aircraft.

FBOs can include aircraft maintenance shops, storage hangars, de-icers, and any of the countless airport based operations that are required to keep America flying. White explained that FBOs “hold a great deal of liability on the ground as there is often heavy machinery, expensive tools, and pollutants such as fuel and chemical in operation around the aircraft.” He went on to explain that a product known as hangarkeepers insurance is an absolute must have for any fixed-base operator.

For new pilots, this world of aviation insurance can seem overwhelming and for that reason, White always suggests new pilots, aircraft owners, or hangar owners reach out to an experienced broker to help them navigate these unique waters. “Pilots deserve to focus on flying and for that to happen, I get to worry about their liability for them,” said White. With more planes than usual grounded during the height of the pandemic, hangar keepers insurance played a larger role to ensure America’s aviation was as well protected on the ground as they were in the skies above.
