Black Women Who Rock In Art, Culture & Entertainment Take Center Stage for Part Two of the Jackie Robinson Arts & Humanities Lecture Series

The Four-Part Virtual Salon Series Continues with a Special Evening in
Honor of National Women's History Month


PASADENA, Calif. - March 2, 2021 - PRLog -- Today Pasadena City College (PCC) has announced the second installment of the "Jackie Robinson Arts & Humanities Lecture Series" (JRALS), taking place Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from 5 pm – 6 pm PST/ 8 pm – 9 pm EST.

In honor of Women's History Month and continuing with the theme "Art as Activism in the Era of Covid-19 & Civil Unrest in the USA: Re-set, Re-Discover, and Re-imagine", the evening will center on women in leadership with "Part Two: Phenomenal Black Women Who Rock: From Myths to Milestones".

Streaming live via Zoom, the series will open with an inspirational address from the new Chief Diversity, Equity Inclusion Officer, Dr. Kari E. Bolen. "As Black women, we must celebrate the uniqueness that separates us from other women, said Bolen, "The inspiring strength that expresses our resilience of human spirit against adversity".

The featured guest for the evening will be Sandra Jackson-Dumont, Director and CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, in conversation with Resident Host and Program Curator Charles Reese. Dumont will share her vision for reimagining the role of museums in society, the art of storytelling, and what it means to be a woman of color in this prominent position. The candid discussion will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Before taking leadership of the Lucas Museum, Dumont developed exhibitions and programs for a wide range of audiences at prominent art institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Seattle Art Museum. Currently, under construction, the Lucas Museum will bring 100,000 square feet of gallery space to the Los Angeles Exposition Park complex and is scheduled to open in 2023. Also scheduled to appear is Award-winning Author, Actress, and Producer, Cheray O'Neal. Her short film "Weep Not" is now screening at Diversity in Cannes, Los Angeles Film Network, and the African American Martha's Vineyard Film Festivals. Vocalist, Educator, and Activist, Nailah Porter, Esq., will be on hand to share how she is using social justice and her love of music to uplift humanity. Throughout her multi-faceted career, she has lobbied for public safety legislation and is a longstanding faculty member of the California Community College system. Currently, she serves as the Equity Specialist for the CCC Online Education Initiative, Student Experience Division. As a musician, she has toured with a variety of jazz, rock, and hip hop artists. Her debut single "ConJazzNess" (pronounced "consciousness") was published in the Voices from Leimert Park Redux: Los Angeles Poetry Anthology.

Providing the soundtrack for the evening is DJ Lynnée Denise. She is also an Artist, Scholar, and Writer, who has garnered the support of organizations like The Jerome Foundation Travel Grant, The Astrae Lesbian Foundation for Justice, and Idea Capital, just to name a few. As a global talent, she coined the phrase 'DJ Scholarship' to re-position the role of the DJ to an information specialist and cultural archivist of music. Learn more at www.djlynneedenise.com.

When asked to reflect on the importance of bringing these women together in celebration of Women's History Month, Charles Reese offered, "I am happy to bear witness as these phenomenal women share their stories and talents with our community. It is a privilege to see their passions for social justice, and art education on full display", said Reese.
