Kwasi Aggor Explains How to Get Involved in the EdTech Industry

By: Get News

The year 2020 has been a stressful one for most of the world. The fight against the virus saw people around the world losing their jobs due to economic decline ushered in by much needed restrictions.

On the upside, the challenges wrought by the pandemic are fuelling markets in areas such as the digital sector.

The education industry has been quick to adapt to the COVID landscape. Many schools are now adopting EdTech or education technology in order to meet the needs of their students in the absence of physical classes.

EdTech, a combination of education and technology, refers to hardware and software designed to enhance teacher-led learning in classrooms and enhance the quality of education for students.

Equipped with cloud computing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, machine learning and big data, EdTech has immense potential to bring about a digital revolution in education.

The burgeoning field provides an excellent avenue for those fresh to the job market as well as people looking to switch careers.

According to Kwasi Aggor, who works in the EdTech industry, “many different, exciting career paths await you if you are considering working in EdTech.”

While far from an exhaustive list, some of the positions range from product training, curriculum development, engineering, product sales, marketing, project management, proposal writing and legal aid among others.

“EdTech is a versatile and growing industry, so almost all of your previous experiences will find a place here”, says Aggor.

Aggor says that you don’t need classroom teaching experience to succeed in the EdTech sector.

Openness to learning as well as a passion for helping people is critical. These driving philosophies are at the core of EdTech.

“EdTech is an attempt to provide education in a way that suits the user by pairing technology with traditional educational methods,” says Aggor.

“Ultimately, you are helping children discover a passion for learning and that would go a long way into shaping their futures.”

It is also important to be a good listener to better understand students and instructors to provide them with the support they need to succeed.

According to Aggor, “Listening more and talking less has helped me in this field and I would advise anyone else to do the same.”

The EdTech industry provides a platform for a uniquely diverse environment, therefore an understanding of diversity as well as intercultural competence are beneficial skills for those seeking to get involved.

Aggor says, “You should understand your audience as students come from all races and all socio-economic backgrounds.”

Aggor believes that EdTech has the ability to bridge the gap between students of different backgrounds, providing them with more equal opportunities and learning experiences.

“I believe that EdTech makes it possible to give everybody access to a great education.”

His final tip?

“Be naturally curious, ask questions, uncover needs, and help people solve problems.”
