At the beginning of this winter, it is believed that footsteps will finally reach the dream place. Recently, Mr. Hu Jiaqi, the founder of Save Human Action Organization, received active response from people from all walks of life after The 6th Open Letter to Leaders of Mankind was sent, especially the letter from Professor Jacques Dubochet, a Nobel Prize winner in chemistry.
Professor Jacques Dubochet is the first supporter with great influence who agrees with the idea that the development of science and technology should be restricted to some extent since Mr. Hu Jiaqi began his research on humanity over 40 years ago. Mr. Hu Jiaqi expressed his views in a letter of reply to the professor at once.
Professor Jacques Dubochet mentioned in his letter that science is knowledge and the problem is not about knowledge but what we do with it. He also agrees that we are not doing well and proposes that UNO should be in charge of supervising all technologies for their development and their use.
To this question, Mr. Hu Jiaqi believes that we can never use science and technology perfectly. There are two reasons for this.
First, we can not fully grasp the functions of science and technology correctly. What we think the best is always the worst, and the higher the technology becomes, the more difficult for us to judge its safety.
Second, it is impossible for us to use the products of science and technology with absolutely good intention, because even the best moral value and legal system can only play an effective role in restricting the entire society. The extremely bad things may happen anytime and may be committed by anyone. Therefore, the hope that science and technology can be well used is an extravagant one.
Wise men always, in the spirit of open debate, look at the world and think wisely through communication between different thoughts. Mr. Hu Jiaqi also expressed his basic attitude towards science and technology in the letter of reply.
First, we should restrict the development of science and technology, which means science and technology can not further develop to a higher level, because a lot of technologies may cause extreme damage to our mankind.
Second, we should use science and technology well, which means we should scrutinize every science and technology carefully and spread all the existing mature and safe scientific and technological achievements of different countries to the whole world. We will have enough food and clothing by doing so.
All in all, the only way to control science and technology rationally is the unification of mankind and the use of the power of a universal government. The UN mentioned by Professor Jacques Dubochet is just an organization that coordinates different countries and can not control countries.
As to the end of all patents and the issue that science and technology can not be used for exclusive right or financial interest, Mr. Hu Jiaqi believes that if these visions can be realized, enthusiasm for science and technology will definitely be dampened, but these can only be realized by using the power of a universal government.
Finally, Mr. Hu Jiaqi expressed his idea that we can not, by no means, allow ourselves to be exterminated without taking any action. We must fight with utmost effort even there is no hope. Effort of each drop of water is required in the ‘great current’ to save mankind. Although he and Save Human Action Organization (SHAO) are only a small droplet, he hopes they work the hardest.
Thoughts are diverse. Wisdom only comes from communication between different thoughts. We hope to see more communication and exchanges between Mr. Hu Jiaqi and Professor Jacques Dubochet to contribute to the immortality and happiness of mankind.
