With an intended investment size per firm of between $10 million and $100 million, Z2 will make direct investments mostly in private companies. These companies typically provide minimal options for financing, which forces owners to decide between foregoing the next stage of growth or ceding ownership of their businesses to institutional equity capital. This is made worse by the present high-interest rate environment, which makes it harder and harder to obtain loans from traditional financing sources like commercial banks. Using its extensive, exclusive sourcing networks, Z2 will create privately negotiated direct loans and opportunistic equity investments.
