RoDam Korean Medical Clinic Combines Traditional Medicine and Modern Science to Heal Scars

RoDam Korean Medical Clinic has combined modern science and elements of traditional medical practices to create one of the most advanced scar treatment procedures available today.

South Korea - April 6, 2023

RoDam Korean Medical Clinic is one of the most well-known clinics in South Korea when it comes to scar treatments. However, little is known about the clinic and its methods outside of the country. RoDam Korean Medical Clinic has combined modern science and elements of traditional medical practices to create one of the most advanced scar treatment procedures available today. Now, it hopes to share its knowledge with the world, and open up the clinic to more international audiences.

RoDam Korean Medical Clinic’s patient scar treatment method, known as CORA Therapy, is ideal for treating indented scars, including acne scarring, laceration scars, mole removal scars, surgical scars, elective scars, and chickenpox scars. Indented scars are formed when the regeneration process stops prematurely, and tissue does not grow back to its original thickness.

According to Kim Ik-Doo, director of RoDam Korean Medical Clinic, "Scar treatments in traditional Korean medicine are carried out in the same form as in general dermatology, but in the case of acne scars with wide range, narrow mouth, and deep dents, more delicate procedures are required. Those with more acupuncture experience, such as traditional medicine doctors are better suited for this type of procedure”.

CORA Therapy was successfully presented in 2012 in the Journal of the Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (KCI). It is a scar treatment using a newly developed acupuncture technique, known as a delicate procedure that is customized to fit the depth and shape of each patient's scars. The treatment uses specialized needles designed for scar treatment. The method does not require any additional regenerative therapy or unnecessary procedures, which makes it cost-effective and time-efficient with a shorter recovery period.

Dr. Hong Mu-seok, the director of the Rodam Korean Medicine Clinic in Gangnam

According to Dr. Hong Mu-seok, the director of the Rodam Korean Medicine Clinic in Gangnam, "Since everyone has different skin regeneration abilities, there may be some variation in the time it takes to complete the scar treatment, but usually, after 6-10 sessions with an interval of 2-3 weeks, more than 80-90% of facial scars can be restored."

He also advised that "there are differences in skin regeneration abilities depending on the area of the scar, especially in the case of atrophic acne scars on the nose, which may have slower regeneration abilities than other areas, but with a relaxed attitude towards the treatment, one can expect a good result".

As a scar treatment method, CORA Therapy takes a holistic approach. Treatments are patient centered and adaptable based on patients’ needs by combining traditional and modern science.
