The Dollar General Literacy Foundation Issues $4.9 Million in Grants to Support Literacy

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation continues its commitment to promoting literacy and education by awarding grants to schools, public libraries and nonprofit organizations through its back-to-school and youth literacy grant programs. Combined, the 746 grants will provide $4.9 million in funding to schools and nonprofit organizations that support literacy and basic education initiatives.

“Dollar General is dedicated to improving the lives of others by supporting literacy and education,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s Chairman and CEO. “These grants were developed to support the schools and organizations that are educating young minds. We commend their commitment to improving children’s lives and futures through education.”

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded 318 back-to-school grants to schools across its 35-state market area. The back-to-school grants provide funding to schools for new programs, equipment materials or software for their library or literacy program.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded 415 youth literacy grants to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations in its 35-state market area. The youth literacy grants provide funding for the implementation or expansion of literacy programs in schools, public libraries and nonprofit organizations.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded an additional 13 grants worth $2.4 million to national and regional literacy initiatives.
