Is Comcast Xfinity Internet Good for Cord Cutters?

Comcast Xfinity Internet Good for Cord Cutters

With more than 100 million customers in 40 states, Comcast Xfinity is one of the most popular internet and cable TV companies in the United States. If you’re seeking to “cut the cord,” you might not think of a cable company, but many Xfinity users simply utilize their internet subscription and choose to stream all of their TV. Streamers should check for Xfinity internet deals in particular. Xfinity internet services come with a contract, but they do include a free 4K streaming device and a free Peacock Premium tier subscription to NBCUniversal’s new streaming service.

Xfinity Deals for Current Customers

If you’re an existing Xfinity internet customer, you don’t have many options for lowering your internet fees. The best option is to sign up for paperless billing and autopay to save $10 each month. Regrettably, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be eligible for the discount. The offer isn’t available to all existing Xfinity subscribers for whatever reason.

Xfinity Deals for New Users

Xfinity is offering new internet customers a free Peacock Premium account as well as the Xfinity Flex, a 4K streaming device that includes the Xfinity Voice Remote. This is your chance to acquire a free streaming device from a company like Roku or Apple TV if you don’t already have one. Peacock, one of my favorite streaming services, is supported by Xfinity Flex Plus. Peacock is one of the few streaming services that allows me to simultaneously watch on-demand and live sports, news, sitcoms, cartoons, and movies. Xfinity provides this offer to all new customers, regardless of the internet plan they choose.

Xfinity Speed and Data Caps

Xfinity is the fastest internet provider in 16 states, yet typical download speeds for Xfinity customers are around 255 Mbps, which is nowhere near a gigabit. Still, I wouldn’t call that a minor achievement. That’s more than enough speed for a home like mine, which has a lot of heavy streamers, remote workers, and online gamers.

If I had one complaint about Xfinity, it would be their 1.2 terabytes (TB) data cap, but I’m not too concerned about it. We stream all day at home — Netflix and Hulu are my go-to for background noise while cooking or falling asleep — and we still don’t utilize 1.2 TB a month. In truth, I’m a long way off. If you go over your data cap, Xfinity will charge you $10 for every 50 GB you use. Fortunately, Xfinity’s data overage penalties are capped at $100 per month, or you may pay an extra $30 per month for unlimited bandwidth if you require that much. (If you do, you’d be better off with Spectrum and Frontier, which both offer data cap-free plans.)

Xfinity Internet Only Plans and Pricing

Xfinity provides 6 internet plans, but only the Performance Select and Performance Pro+ are the ones we suggest. They’re the cheapest 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans on the market. It can handle all of the streaming and gaming without having to disconnect your phones from the Wi-Fi to speed things up. The only other internet provider that provides a 200 Mbps package at a comparable price is Spectrum, but you won’t get as many bonuses as you would with Xfinity.

Xfinity is the most widely available cable internet provider in the United States, yet its services are not available in rural areas. Even if Xfinity is available in your area, the Performance Pro+ plan is the greatest deal you’ll find. AT&T Fiber and Verizon Fios offer lower costs on gigabit internet plans, and they are available in most places where Xfinity services are accessible.

After the special period ends, Xfinity’s prices appear to be excessive. Those costs, however, cover the expense of Xfinity’s premium products and services, which are well worth the money. When you consider the discounts and extras that come with an Xfinity subscription, any streamer might acquire a wonderful setup. It’d be more cost-effective to bundle your internet and streaming services into one bill, especially because Peacock is a full-featured streaming service. Xfinity’s internet plans are, in some ways, bundle deals for streamers.

Xfinity Internet Contracts and Fees

Figuring out Xfinity’s internet fees can be tricky, whether you hire a professional or do it yourself, there will be an installation cost. Most consumers are given an installation fee of roughly $89.99, so make sure to double-check with Comcast. Most Xfinity plans, thankfully, provide self-installation. The self-installation price for Xfinity is $15.

If you rent Xfinity’s modem/router combination, the xFi Gateway, after you’ve signed up, there’s a $14 monthly equipment rental fee. If you decide to buy your own modem or switch providers, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you want to stay with Xfinity, take your time. Although Xfinity’s internet plans need a one-year contract, don’t be concerned about being locked into a contract; providers such as Spectrum will pay early termination fees for new customers who decide to move. That makes short contracts like Xfinity’s easier to cope with, however you should check to see if any providers near you provide contract buyouts before committing.

Xfinity will charge you for the remaining months if you break your contract early. The policy at Xfinity isn’t always obvious, but it won’t cost you any more than your outstanding monthly costs. Xfinity charges $10 per month for the rest of your contract. When you sign up, make sure to double-check the current costs because they can vary.

Is Xfinity internet beneficial to cord-cutters?

For a budget-conscious person, Xfinity’s non-promotional internet costs are a tad pricey. I liked the special prices – $49.99 per month for speeds up to 200 Mbps is a great value — but I wish their non-promotional costs were a little cheaper. I don’t want to have to switch providers every year in order to locate a plan that is cheap.

When you consider everything you get, Xfinity’s pricing makes sense. Any Xfinity internet package comes with high-speed internet at home and at millions of public Wi-Fi hotspots, a 4K streaming device, a Peacock Premium subscription, and cybersecurity features.
