Catheon Gaming shares details on Aotuverse and Onigiri Metaverse

Catheon Gaming and CyberStep are pleased to announce that they are developing a Solana blockchain NFT version of Onigiri titled Onigiri Metaverse. Catheon is building the game together with CyberStep, a Japanese video game developer. The game was first published in 2014 and it was played on several different consoles, but now the two companies are working to host it on the Solana blockchain. Onigiri also inspired an anime with the same name, released in 2016.

Video games built on blockchain technology provide various benefits for their players, above all a different game economy that enables them to earn financial rewards in cryptocurrency. Catheon Gaming already has a lot of experience in developing games for this environment and is one of the leaders in blockchain gaming, with titles like SolChicks, Seoulstars, and Aotuverse also known as AOTU in their portfolio.

"Over the last six months at Catheon Gaming, we have made real progress in harnessing the potential of NFTs and gaming for some of the anime franchises, offering their fanbase new digital experiences based on the important principles of true digital ownership and decentralization," said William Wu, the founder of Catheon Gaming. "Catheon Gaming is proud to have played a significant role in some of the major milestones in the development of true digital property rights via NFTs for gaming. We are extremely excited to be bringing Web3 to one of the most popular entertainment industries in the world, anime.”

Details are still being released, but it is clear that the NFT Solana Blockchain game has been strongly influenced by the original Onigiri game. The original game is a PVE (player vs environment) game set in ancient Japan. The player takes a role of an Oni, which is a kind of a demon in Japanese folklore. The objective of the game is to defeat the evil Kamikui who brought death and destruction thus disturbing the Oni’s quiet life.

Catheon and CyberStep plan to persuade the 5 million people who downloaded Onigiri on Steam to take advantage of the financial benefits that the blockchain play-to-earn game offers.

So far, the game developers have created 8 different main characters, some of which are modeled after the characters from the original version. The game also features 4 different special companions which will join you on your mission to fight the Kamikui. These companions can be bought, sold, and owned as NFTs and they’ll be able to become stronger and more affectionate as they gain experience.

Catheon Gaming is also pleased to announce that they’re in the opening stages of building a new play-to-earn game on the Solana blockchain. The game is called Aotuverse or AOTU. This game continues the AOTU franchise which gained huge prominence over the last few years. It is one of the games that uses exciting new revenue models for players, enabled by blockchain technology.

“Aotuverse will bring an exceptional game to the blockchain, featuring a fun and addictive gameplay loop, where the game’s entertainment value comes first. Where other games have failed to deliver a blockchain gaming experience that players have enjoyed, Aotuverse will capture the imagination of blockchain gamers as they battle their way through obstacles, collect awesome characters and earn rewards just for playing the game.”, it’s claimed in the Aotuverse whitepaper.

AOTU World was originally a very successful anime, with over 15 billion views, which makes it the second most popular anime in China. AOTU was then transformed into a video game that also achieved great success with over 15 million downloads and 140,000+ daily users. Now, Catheon is moving this game to the blockchain and implementing new, blockchain games-specific ways to earn money in gaming.

The new Aotuverse game offers two modes – PVP (player vs player) and PVE (player vs environment). Both modes offer financial incentives and rewards. Players will be able to earn governance tokens called starstone tokens and utility tokens called grey tokens. These can be used as in-game currency, but will be convertible to other cryptocurrencies as well.

Phase 1 of development is already finished, with the first wave of NFTs minted, and the whitepaper and pitch deck uploaded to their website. The second phase is coming in Q3 of 2022, and it should include IDO and token listing, Alpha and Beta game release, minting of the second wave of NFTs, and, finally, the official game release. In 2024, Catheon plans to build the entire AOTU metaverse as well.
