Born in 1941 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Joe Sorenson was blind from birth due to a rare medical condition. Despite early medical challenges and educational barriers, he pursued a lifelong passion for communication, ultimately building a respected career in broadcasting, writing, and ministry.
The memoir traces Sorenson’s formative years in public school and at the Minnesota Braille and Sight Saving School, followed by his entry into radio at KUOM, the University of Minnesota’s public radio station. His career expanded into commercial radio sales, on-air hosting, and journalism, including authorship of the media column Media Highlights for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder.
In 2006, Sorenson relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continued his work in broadcasting, ministry, and creative writing. His audio programming remains accessible through Celebration and Praise Radio via phone and online platforms.
In addition to memoir narratives, Exciting Life of Joe Sorenson features a collection of original poetry reflecting themes of faith, daily life, caregiving, love, loss, and personal reflection. Sorenson began writing poetry in 2015 alongside his wife, Ellen. The couple later published Variety of Original Poems and regularly participate in live poetry readings within local and regional poetry communities.
