US F-16 fighter crashes off South Korea; marks third Korea-based jet loss in a year

(Matthew Du, NewsUSA Reporter) - After suffering an in-flight emergency off the coast in South Korea early of Wednesday, a United States Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed over the waters west of the Korean Peninsula at around 8:41 a.m. The incident occurred approximately 110 miles south of Seoul.

The pilot ejected safely and was conscious. He is currently being assessed by medical staff at a nearby medical facility.

 

Though there are no indications of correlation, this marks the third crash of a South Korea-based F16 in less than a year.
