Walgreens Offering Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccinations Daily at More Than 150 Stores Throughout Colorado

With the state of Colorado among those in the U.S. experiencing an increase in the number of reported pertussis cases, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) continues to encourage vaccination to help increase immunity and stop the spread of the disease for all Coloradoans. In response to the increase, Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (NASDAQ: WAG) is now offering immunizations that provide protection against pertussis (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis-Tdap vaccine) at all of its more than 150 stores throughout the state, every day, with no appointment necessary.

Walgreens pharmacists in Colorado can administer immunizations to anyone age 9 and older, immunizations are available during pharmacy hours at all locations. To find the nearest Walgreens, residents can call 1-800-WALGREENS or visit www.walgreens.com.

“We support the recommendations of health officials that one of the best things people can do to keep themselves and their families healthy during this pertussis outbreak is to get vaccinated,” said Howard Atlas, Colorado market vice president for Walgreens. “There is strong awareness about the benefits of the vaccine and hopefully we can continue to see a decline in the number of cases statewide through more people heeding the health department’s advice.”

The CDPHE recommends the tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for the following groups who don’t normally receive Tdap vaccine:

  • All adults who provide care to infants and adults living in a household with an infant, including adults age 65 and older
  • Preadolescents (ages 7-10 years) who are not up to date on pertussis vaccinations and who are living in a household with an infant

For the latest pertussis immunization recommendations from the CDPHE, visit its website at www.cdphe.state.co.us.

Select Walgreens offer a wide range of more than 20 CDC-recommended immunizations, including those for shingles, pneumonia and others. In addition, flu shots are currently available at every Walgreens pharmacy nationwide, every day, with no appointment necessary.
