Skyclock in Agreement with Ann Arbor Airport

By: PRLog
The Ann Arbor Airport terminal now houses a large-screen display of the iPhone app, Skyclock, as part of the pilot information center. The app display was modified at the request of the Airport Advisory Committee to include Civil Twilight which is an important feature for aviation activities.
PRLog - Apr. 9, 2014 - ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Skyclock is already popular and highly rated in the iTunes app store, and has been written up by several popular aviation sites such as Aviation Mentor and SimFlight. Skyclock features a working analog clock showing the sunrise, sunset, and twilight periods for the user’s specific location.

Early feedback is positive. “This is a good visual to make a point. The clock shows official night (and day) for this specific location. A great app for cross-country travel.” said flight instructer Don Musinski.

The FAA defines daylight for the purposes of daytime flying as inclusive of morning and evening civil twilight (Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations). “Pilots are a core user group for Skyclock,” said John Rosevear, Skyclock’s founder and CEO. “They have been, by far, the most active users in terms of feedback. Showing Civil Twilight has been the most requested change, so we were happy to comply with the Committee’s request.”

Airport Manager Matt Kulhanek added “The Airport Advisory Committee wants to provide valuable information for the pilots who use the Ann Arbor Airport. The fact that Skyclock is a local business is an added benefit.”

Skyclock users can select whether to show one or all of the defined twilight periods (Civil, Nautical, and Astronomical), in addition to seeing sunrise and sunset time on the analog clock face. Robert Baxtresser, President of Skyclock said, “This is a ‘tryout’ for us as much as the Airport. We’ll continue to improve the display. And technologies are coming on-line that could dramatically reduce the cost of producing Skyclock display hardware for airports, tactical operations centers, and recreation facilities like golf course pro shops.”

In addition to professional and amateur aviators, Skyclock is used by photographers, golfers, and those involved in other outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking, fishing, and camping.
