Alaska Communications Systems Launches Fiber Facility Marine Survey

Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. ("ACS") (NASDAQ:ALSK), today announced continuing progress on its fiber facility project to link Alaska to the Pacific Northwest. Saturday, August 25th, will mark the launch of the projects marine survey, beginning in Anchorage.

This is an important milestone for our project of building a fiber link between Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, said Liane Pelletier, ACS president, chief executive officer and chair. This strategic investment will serve Alaska with the newest technology and a diverse route.

The survey process begins with the exploration of routes between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula, progressing south towards Southeast Alaska, and concludes in the Pacific Northwest.

ACS has previously announced an anticipated commercial launch date for the fiber facility of early 2009.
