Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. ("ACS") (NASDAQ:ALSK), Alaska's leading integrated communications provider, announced today the completion of its fiber optic expansion and network equipment upgrade project in Sitka.
The project, which increased Internet availability for residents and businesses in Sitka by 34%, involved the installation of fiber optic cables in areas between Halibut Point Road and Sawmill Creek Road. In addition, ACS conducted a major network equipment overhaul, upgrading existing facilities to accommodate the fiber. The results: expanded Internet service availability and lightening-fast upload and download speeds.

Residents in Sitka now have access to faster Internet speeds at competitive rates not available prior to the project. Residential customers can get speeds up to 3Mbps, and business customers can get speeds up to 5Mbps. In addition, ACS offers discounted bundles that include high-speed Internet, Local, and Long Distance services. As a customer courtesy, ACS also provides free professional desktop installations.
