Alaska Communications Further Strengthens Cloud Solutions for Alaska Businesses with Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute

Alaska businesses can now have a private, secure, and reliable connection to Microsoft Azure cloud services from Alaska Communications (NASDAQ: ALSK) and Microsoft. Alaska Communications is the first Microsoft ExpressRoute partner based in Alaska.

Microsoft Azure is the leading provider of integrated cloud services – analytics, computing, database, mobile, networking, storage and web – all designed to host business applications and data securely and reliably, while saving businesses money.

Alaska Communications provides a direct connection to Microsoft Azure with ExpressRoute, creating a private, secure, reliable connection between Microsoft datacenters and Alaska businesses. ExpressRoute connections do not go over the public internet, and offer high security, reliability and speeds with lower latencies than typical connections over the internet.

“The cloud is transforming the way enterprises, government agencies, schools and healthcare providers operate, allowing them to be more productive while saving money. Moving workloads to the cloud gives organizations the security, flexibility and scalability they haven’t had before. For example, if you need a large number of servers for a short period of time – say to register thousands of people for a service or event over a few weeks – you can pay for just that, then turn off service. The cloud only works, though, if you have a secure, reliable connection to it,” Alaska Communications Vice President of Managed Services Chris Reaburn said.

Alaska Communications was selected by Microsoft as its ExpressRoute partner because of its secure, reliable, redundant fiber optic network, connecting Alaska to the Lower 48. It is the only Alaska-based carrier that is Ethernet 2.0 certified, providing ultimate in reliability and security.

“We’ve had a longstanding partnership with Microsoft, as a Microsoft Gold Partner offering Microsoft Office 365 and Skype for Businesses. This is a natural evolution of that partnership, bringing innovative solutions to Alaska. The cloud is the way business is moving, bringing new capabilities and creating new possibilities for businesses. We get businesses to the cloud and support them with the tools, technology and expertise to move our state forward,” said Reaburn.
