After 25 Years, The Hempest Awarded State Cannabis License

By: Issuewire

Northampton, Massachusetts Feb 12, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - It's been a long time since The Hempest opened their doors on Huntington Ave in Boston, back in 1995.  At the time, the idea of legal Cannabis was just a pipe dream, but 25 years later, it is very much a reality.  For 25 years this small locally owned business has expanded throughout New England, and had 3 Massachusetts shops. One on Newbury Street in Boston, One in Harvard Square in Cambridge, and One in Northampton. These shops sold mostly Hemp clothing, and other Cannabis based products, and in 2014, were some of the first in the state, and country to expand heavily into hemp cannabidiol products.  Throughout that time, The Hempest educated hundreds of thousands of customers and fought hard to legalize Cannabis and end the drug war.  Their slogan was to vote with your dollar and create the change you wanted to see in the world.  Well, it may have taken a bit longer than they anticipated, but here we are 25 years later and that change is here. Legal Cannabis is rapidly expanding in MA and The Hempest will finally get its "Slice" of the pie.  Their Northampton location is set for a Grand Opening in the next 1-2 weeks.

"We plan to curate a wide selection of locally grown and sourced Cannabis products, with a heavy focus on Western MA", said CEO Jonathan Sheeley.  Together with long time partners Jon Napoli and Mitch Rosenfield, they hope this will not just be a pinnacle of their 25-year-old business, but the start of something much bigger.  Napoli, the COO, has also won licensing for one of the state's largest Cannabis grows that he hopes will supply this shop and many others.  the 86,000 Sq ft facility is currently nearing completion and expects its first crop by Summer. Rosenfield has received a difficult to obtain Host Agreement from the city of Boston for an additional shop that still needs to go through the state application process.

When asked about the project, Rosenfield said, "It's a very time consuming, exhausting, and expensive process, but we really feel like we belong in this space as much, if not more, than anyone.  We have fought this battle for 25 years, and are thrilled to see our work and beliefs come to fruition. We are hoping to bring a local, organically grown feel to the cannabis industry that is missing among all the large corporate, big-money players who have invaded the space.  In the end, it's all about a love of the plant, and we certainly aren't short on that."
