Footprint Project Partners with Clean Energy Leaders to Deploy Solar Energy Storage to Texas for Winter Storm Recovery

By: PRLog

DALLAS - Feb. 25, 2021 - PRLog -- In response to requests from local responders, Footprint Project activated our Solar Energy Rapid Response Team (SERRT) to support Texas's recovery from Winter Storm Uri. Beginning this week (February 21), Footprint Project is deploying solar equipment to power mobile communication and remote charging needs for the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) and Fayette County Emergency Management (FCEM). The Footprint Project team is remotely coordinating equipment shipments to our implementing partner Sail Relief Team (SRT), that is on the ground in Texas. SRT is collecting donated solar equipment provided by Footprint Project and assembling mobile solar systems in Dallas, Texas. The solar equipment will power communications equipment and refrigeration for first responders, partner relief organizations, and community mutual aid groups.

The state of Texas is currently reeling from historic storm conditions that have caused emergency and water needs across the state. On Tuesday February 23, over 23,585 people remain without power due to damaged power lines and nearly half the state is facing issues with water supply according to the Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). Disaster recovery efforts are expected to continue into March, with compounding challenges presented by COVID-19 and future spring storms. Mobile power remains a persistent challenge for professional and community responders alike.

Footprint Project's mobile solar deployments will take place in Dallas, Fayette County and other areas in Texas as the recovery situation develops. Site assessments began on February 17, battery shipments began on February 18, and the pick-up of solar equipment began on February 19. As equipment arrives in Dallas, it will be assembled into mobile turn-key solar generators and dispatched to fit first responder needs.

Mobile solar and energy storage systems can work independently, or integrate with generators on site to extend fuel reserves and save resources. They also reduce CO2 and particulate emissions from emergency response hubs, which is of particular importance for vulnerable populations.

Footprint Project would like to extend a special thank you to our dedicated partners for their support of this activation. Our Hardware Heroes providing in-kind equipment donations include SimpliPhi Power, CED Greentech, Sol-Ark Solar, and New Use Energy. Our Core Mission Support partners include Target and Arcadia.

Footprint Project's mission is to help #BuildBackGreener after disasters by providing cleaner energy to communities in crisis. To donate please see below.

About Footprint Project:

Footprint Project assembles, deploys and maintains solar generators to displace fossil fuel generators and support community-led recovery during disaster power outages. We focus on empowering mutual aid networks and locally-based resilience groups by providing them with plug-and-play clean energy systems so they can serve their community. Our Solar Energy Rapid Response Team (SERRT) works to power donation drop sites, emergency command centers, first aid stations, refrigeration and medication storage, and any other electricity-dependent services for Community Resilience Hub Partners (CRHPs). Footprint Project not only reduces fossil fuel use, but also empowers underserved, front-line community groups to kick-start equitable and resilient recovery.

If you are interested in helping Footprint Project #BuildBackGreener during these trying times, we are currently seeking:

1. Cash - The most effective, flexible, and sustainable way to support disaster-affected communities. Donations can be made at https://www.footprintproject.org/donate

2. Clean Energy Equipment - Batteries, inverters, solar panels, wiring, in priority order. More information here: https://www.footprintproject.org/donate

3. Attention - Share our work. Attention helps us fund the first two. Follow and share at https://twitter.com/footprintprjct/ and https://www.instagram.com/footprintprjct/
