Global Drive for Innovation Continues for Hitachi, the Maker of the World's First Bullet Trains

WASHINGTON - April 28, 2021 - PRLog -- The US High Speed Rail Association is pleased to announce that Hitachi Rail has joined the Association to support High Speed Rail development in America. Under the new rail-friendly Biden administration, the nation is set to expand high speed rail as the President has promised to "spark the second great railroad revolution" in America.

"We're proud to welcome Hitachi to USHSR as a Global VIP Member," said President Andy Kunz. "Hitachi has long supported the mission of bringing HSR to America after decades of success in Japan, Italy, and numerous other nations. Hitachi has been at the forefront of high speed rail development and technology advancement around the world for decades."

Hitachi Rail is a world leading manufacturer of high speed trains, signalling systems and components, turnkey rail systems, and rail construction, operations, and management services. Hitachi has over 100 years' experience delivering excellence for their customers and their passengers.

"Development in high speed rail brings extraordinary market opportunity for the US economy in terms of direct and indirect jobs, as well as long-term material upgrades to aging infrastructure. We see investments as putting the nation on better competitive footing in the global marketplace while also addressing climate change. Decarbonizing transportation will be a major driver for business in the next 20–30 years," said Jason White, Executive Officer – Americas, Hitachi Rail.

Hitachi's history includes expertise in high speed rail systems from Japan, Italy and France. Their products have included the design and manufacture of the Shinkansen models of the Japanese high speed rail system, including world's first 'bullet train' as well as the various Shinkansen trains operating across Japan today.  Over half of all high speed lines worldwide are equipped with Hitachi's railway signaling solutions.

Hitachi Rail has major manufacturing facilities in Japan, the UK, Italy, and the United States - where the company's operating footprint includes East and West Coast U.S. railcar assembly plants as well as a manufacturing plant dedicated to signaling solutions. Hitachi will add a new U.S. assembly plant in the National Capital region to build the 8000-series metro cars recently awarded to Hitachi Rail by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. With many partnerships, Hitachi Rail's assembly plants are already serving customers in Baltimore, Honolulu and Miami.

The mission of the US High Speed Rail Association is to build widespread public, business and political support for a major investment in a national high-speed rail network.
