Marilyn Wright from Premier Sotheby's International Realty brings buyer to Asheville Most Expensive sale

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - September 15, 2021 - (Newswire.com)

The original residence of Vanderbilt heir George Cecil and his wife, Nancy, has sold for $9.5 million; it is the most expensive residential sale in Western North Carolina. Located at 2 Aboretum Road in Biltmore Forest, the stunning property has been in the Vanderbilt family since the 1890s — the Cecils built the home and resided there for over 35 years. Marilyn Wright, of Premier Sotheby's International Realty's Asheville office, represented the buyer; the listing agent was Clary McCall of Beverly-Hanks, South.

The five-bedroom, four full- and two-half-bath home features expansive windows and spacious patios overlooking the private property. A pool, peaceful streams and abundant foliage create a relaxing outdoor oasis. The residence is surrounded by the last undeveloped acreage owned by Biltmore Farms that will ever be available for development in Biltmore Forest.

A prominent businessman, developer and philanthropist, Cecil was the grandson of George Vanderbilt. Cecil headed Biltmore Farms Development Company for decades and was responsible for some of Asheville's most significant developments and economic boons. He passed away in October 2020 at the age of 95.

Wright is ranked No. 1 on the list of AVL Top 100 REALTORS® and is the No. 5 individual agent in North Carolina based on sales volume (REALTrends). She has dominated the luxury market with record-breaking sales. Last week, she closed on the previously highest-priced home in the region: She co-listed the $9.3 million farmhouse estate at 3903 Island Ford Road in Brevard with John Witherspoon of Witherspoon Platt Associates and also represented the buyer in that sale; she sold the same property to the current sellers back in 2016. In 2020, her listing at 398 Vanderbilt sold for $7.7 million — the highest residential sale in the history of the region at the time.

Quote:

"This legacy property is steeped in history. The residence, land and location presented a unique opportunity that commanded a record sale price. I was honored to unite my buyer with this extraordinary home and was able to offer a valuable understanding of not only the property but our region."
